Hi. I just joined this community. I agree that some of the other cockatiel communities are hard to read. Anyway, I am going to be getting my fist tiel on the 25th of this month and I can't wait! I'm naming him/her Paikea(from Whale Rider--for those of you who haven't seen it, it's pronounced "Pie-kee-yah")He/she is a cinnamon pied and is just a little cutie. My breeder wrote me today and this is what she said:
Pai is an investigator. He will hesitate when everyone else goes the opposite direction from where he wants to go, and will end up going his own way to check out what caught his interest---but he runs like the devil back to his buddies when he realizes he is by himself. I catch him often standing up as tall as possible on his toes to see whats "over there". He is not one to stay put, thats for sure. When placed on a play gym, Pai is usually one of the first down to see what else there is to do. I keep a section of the living room with a sheet on the floor, and barracaded with cages so I can let all the babies out to wander and play, then I go and sit on the floor with them several times a day to handle and cuddle them. Pai has figured out if he climbs the cage, he can walk across the top, jump down and find a "people"or a "dog" to bother. It is not unusual to see my husband placing him back into the play area :)
Pics of Pai under the cut.
Here are the pictures of Pai that Karen has sent me so far:
This is the first one when he was just a few weeks old.
Here are two more she sent me just yesterday:
Gotta love that big(actually, little) yellow crest!
